New York-based Schoolwide, Inc. launches interactive video contest to promote a quality online experience for teachers and students that enhances writing and literacy skills. The prize is $5,000 in educational materials from www.teacherwide.com.

November 1, 2009, Bohemia, NY – Schoolwide, Inc. recently announced the launch of its free video site at www.schoolwidenetwork.com and national video contest. Both the site and contest are meant to encourage teachers to film their teaching experiences and share them with other educators online.

While twenty-first century learning techniques are gaining prominence in schools, some teachers are still apprehensive about new technologies. Free to enter, the Schoolwide Network's "Teach, Tape, & Win Contest" is meant to disarm these fears and get teachers engaged in a way that is both simple and fun. By showing teachers how easy it is to film, upload, and disseminate their classroom experiences on the web, Schoolwide hopes to create a modern learning environment without losing touch with the quality teaching fundamentals so essential to academic success.

According to Schoolwide, while the technologies may change, good teaching remains constant. This is why Schoolwide has gone to great lengths to preserve the "quality" that has become their corporate polestar in every video produced. For instance, all video content must first be approved by Schoolwide's educational panel, and in the spirit of new media, the panel-approved entries that are "most viewed," as indicated on the Schoolwide Network site, will advance to the final round. A panel of esteemed authors and educators, including Angela Johnson, Doreen Rappaport, Dr. Linda Bausch, and Georgia Heard, will then select the winner.

"We believe that education should be measured not by the time spent but the quality of that time," says Schoolwide President, Jess Cohen. "We're hoping that the 'Teach, Tape, & Win' contest will not only help teachers improve the quality of their time with their students, but will also initiate a dialogue among professional educators about how to improve instructional techniques."

While other educational video sites offer more of a grab-bag experience, Schoolwide has differentiated itself by becoming a more focused filter that saves teachers time while developing academic trust.

The "Teach, Tape, & Win" contest is free to enter and will span the entire school year. The deadline for submitting videos is March 31, 2010; however, Schoolwide encourages participants to submit early to begin accumulating the votes needed to make it to the final round. For more contest details or to subscribe to the Schoolwide Network go to www.schoolwidenetwork.com.
