to Help Teachers in Their "Race to the Top"

New York-based Schoolwide, Inc. launches interactive educational initiative to provide teachers and students with quality, performance-enhancing content in response to The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
November 1, 2009, Bohemia, NY – Schoolwide, Inc. (www.schoolwidenetwork.com) announced today that it will be creating and sponsoring a national campaign to provide teachers and students access to quality educational resources designed to improve reading and writing skills of K–8 students. Disseminated electronically via e-mail and through the company's new web portal at www.schoolwidenetwork.com, the Lesson of the Week is designed to give teachers meaningful and manageable content and practical lesson plans they can use immediately to improve students' performance.
"While politicians and organizations discuss where and to whom funding should go in the White House's 'race to the top,'" says Schoolwide President and CEO Jess Cohen, "we thought we'd develop a useful way to give teachers access to quality lesson plans they can use right away."
The Lesson of the Week is a free service that promises to deliver high quality lesson plans, grounded in best practices. The lessons incorporate a variety of media formats, including a rich video component that can be directly integrated into new technologies such as SMART Boards and classroom laptops or PCs.
Initial lessons featured video clips of famed, award-winning children's book authors Vera B. Williams and Angela Johnson.
"We are extremely excited about the enthusiastic response we have received from noted authors and highly regarded educators, and we are looking forward to collaborating with them on future content."
Schoolwide will also be offering the Lesson of the Week for syndication to educational associations, schools, and districts in an effort to share the lessons with as many teachers as possible.
"We believe that education should be measured not by the time spent but the quality of that time," says Cohen. "We're hoping that the Lesson of the Week will not only help teachers improve the quality of their time with their students, but will also initiate a dialogue among professional educators about how to improve instructional techniques."
In light of President Obama's current initiatives, Schoolwide believes that the fastest route toward success still lies in the individual teacher's hands. By creating a one-to-one format to reach teachers easily, Schoolwide believes they can make a big difference in students' lives.

About Schoolwide, Inc.
Schoolwide, Inc. is a quality provider of both print and video educational resources and professional development services. Because reading and writing are critical for success in the school, the community, and the workplace, Schoolwide has a central mission to improve students' reading, writing, and learning by increasing the tools teachers can use to teach effectively. Schoolwide has recently launched the www.SchoolwideNetwork.com in response to the lack of quality video (and print) resources available on the Internet today. While other video education sites provide a portal, the Schoolwide Network is a filter for providing teachers and students with the very best content for achieving performance-based goals. |
